In 2024, Open Mainframe Project continued our trend of record-breaking growth for applications for the mentorship program. More than 1,700 developers and students applied for 10 mentorship positions. In the end, 14 qualified applicants were selected to participate in Open Mainframe projects such as COBOL Programming Course, Feilong, Galasa, Mainframe Modernization Working Group, Mainframe Open Education, Software Discovery Tool and Zowe. The mentees gained practical experience with Linux, open source software, and mainframes during their summer term, as well as learning valuable skills to deploy in their future careers.
